Fredericksburg, Virginia- Boyd, Dunn, Fielding Family Celebrates A Life Transition, though we feel the weight of the physical absence, no one is ever lost. Energy can never be destroyed nor can a spirit truly die. The beauty of life transitions is affording us the ability to carry that person with us at all times.

Let us be reminded to tell the stories, hold tight to the wisdom, and assure the story of our ancestors are always told. We are the roots, trunks, and branches of our lifeline and family tree. Though leaves change with the season, we must be unwavering in who we are.

Leurether Boyd: Her Story

Leurether Boyd was born on the 4th of April in the year of 1952 to the late Thad “Boot” Fielding and Cora Mae Boyd Beard. Named after her paternal Aunt, Luertha Fielding Kemp, Leurether received her formal education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While there, she lived with her maternal Uncle, John W. (Susie)Boyd, and attended the Philadelphia High School for Girls.  After graduating, she would go on to attend Boston University, American University, University of the District of Columbia, and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Campus. Her educational endeavors resulted in her becoming an experienced accounting and marketing professional.  Professionally, she was recognized for her exceptional work ethic and innovative approach to marketing, finance, and operational management. Her exemplary skill set afforded her opportunities to engage and develop high-profile clientele.

Leurether was a business professional by day and beauty queen by night. She was First Runner-up in the Washington, DC Miss Black America Contest in 1971 and 1973. Though she stopped competing, she never stopped her love for all things beauty and fashion. Luerether was known for her eclectic taste for fashion, food, and etiquette. In fact, some may even argue that she was a food and beverage connoisseur. She also loved to have a great time with her friends and family with frequent visits to her hometown, Augusta, GA.  To know Leurether, is to know that she was never afraid to speak her mind and advocate for decorum. More than anything, she had a huge desire to be loved and respected while acknowledging the many accomplishments she has made.  In her own rite, she did blaze several trials professionally, civically, and socially as a voice against the demarginalization and injustices that women and minorities faced.

On March 21, 2022, Leurether transitioned, joining her father, mother, and older siblings,

Elizabeth Fielding Stone, Lendsey Fielding, Isadore Fielding, Thad Fielding, Jr., Rosa Fielding Belton, RC Fielding, Alonzer Fielding, William Fielding, Addie Fielding Yancy, Ollie Fielding, Dorothy Beard Rose, Willie Allen Beard, Thomas Anthony Beard, and Horace C. Butler. She leaves behind her brothers, Robert Willie (Christine) Beard, James Richard Beard; sisters, Catherine Louise (Leonard) Kingsberry- Harrell, Lois Beard Garnett; sisters-in-law, Willie Nell Fielding, Hattie Fielding, her loving soulmate, Darryl Taylor, and host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
