Impactful Interruptions: A Prayer at the Park Reflection

Are you welcoming life’s interruptions?

As a youth, we were taught that it was rude to interrupt.  Though this directive was typically applied to when adults were talking, the skill set learned seems to align with other exchanges as well.   Yesterday, we learned that in fact, it is permissible to interrupt and the need to possess a new skill of welcoming interruption.  See, sometimes, these ‘interruptions” are the disruptions we need in our lives to impact and influence positive change.

Founder of Impact Holly Springs, Chanel Wilkins, understood this by serving as a positive conduit of a much-needed interruption.  As the world seems to be clouded by the overwhelming shroud of divisiveness, Chanel felt compiled to organize an event that focused on something other than ourselves individually, but us, collectively.  Though Christian-leaning, it was not an exclusive event.  Inclusion was present.  The beauty of Humanity was emphasized through the artistry of the Heavenly Artist, yesterday.  This was truly an interruption needed.

As the worship music played, sports attendees were interrupted by the sound of peace.  Joggers and walkers paused to gain an understanding of what was about to take place.  As 9 Spiritual Leaders gathered to facilitate corporate prayer, an example of restoration was implemented.  Time was carved out to show that we are more alike than different, that unity is achievable.

See, when getting involved in the lives of people, we understand that we are seeking to put ourselves in a direct line of interruptions and inconveniences.  At the core of servitude, there is an appreciation for the fluidity of people.  Echoing the sentiments of Chanel, our Heavenly Father’s “call to draw His people together is clear throughout Scripture. We see it through the feasts, sacred assemblies, and times of renewal. This year has been directly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and given heightened awareness to our nation’s opportunity for growth in all areas of social justice.”

Yesterday, we were reminded that interruptions can bring about spiritual recalibrations, alleviate separatism, and forge commonality.  We are ‘truly’ better together.
