Memorial and Celebration held in honor of Dorothy “Dot” Beard Rose on April 02, 2021, Aunt of founders, J. Dwayne and Lalita L. Garnett.

Augusta-Richmond County, GA- Boyd, Dunn, Beard Family Celebrates A Life Transition, no matter how prepared we assume that we are, we are never prepared for the death of a loved one.  If honest, after we get through the selfish part of the grieving process, you know, coping with the void of their absence, we can begin the true path of release.  What are we releasing exactly?  We are releasing the limitation that we are placing on life and its perceived limitations.

Because of the delicateness and instability of the occasion, we tend to vary in emotions when it comes to the transition of life.  Therefore, it helps greatly to have a support system in place that is passionate, compassionate, and skilled at their particular area of service. 

 It would be very remiss of us to not acknowledge those organizations that assisted heavily in the positive transition of our beloved Dorothy Beard Rose.

For nearly three years, Bryant’s provided remarkable services to Dorothy and several others.   In fact, because of their great service, we referred another family member to their facility until they closed their doors.

For nearly nine years, Dorothy lived at this residence.  The staff was always courteous.  Unlike many care facilities that specialize in aging populations, there were never any unpleasant odors, issues with cleanliness, or trouble with communication.   When entering their facility, it felt home, from the familiar décor because often, they would use items from each resident to maintain a sense of familiarity. They maintained an atmosphere of welcomeness. This facility is highly recommended.  They didn’t treat us like family, we knew that we WERE family.

Final preparations are challenging enough without adding to them untraditional memorial methods.  When we shared our ideas and plans with the Owner and Executive Director, Dominic Simons, he executed every one of Dorothy’s wishes to the “T”, plus, more. The setting was remarkable, along with top-notch staff, and superb presentation and taste of food.   Every family member left feeling incredible and was impressed with the high level of professionalism and perfect execution of Dorothy’s vision.  Toaste of Augusta, we highly recommend and encourage all to support.

Remembering Dot…

 Dorothy Beard Rose, affectionately known as Dot was born on the 8th of May in the year of 1938 to the Late Allen and Cora Mae Boyd Beard.  She received a proper education through the Augusta-Richmond County Board of Education System, graduating from Lucy Craft Laney in 1956.   Shortly after graduating, she married her High School Sweetheart, Preston Tutt.  Together, they birthed two daughters, Priscilla and Pamela. With the dissolution of her first marriage, she went onto marry Ernest Mosley, and later, Joseph Rose, Jr.

To know Dot is to know a woman, who lived life by her own rules. She accepted the consequences of her actions and found a way to turn every negative into a reason to have fun through her love of fashion, music, partying, and cooking.   Though an Augusta, GA native, she spent several years in the Washington, DC area before returning in 1982.  Dot served with various organizations, such as the Amvets, American Legion, and Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliaries as well as serving as Usher at 1st Moriah Baptist Church of Appling, GA, in which she was a member.  

For those who would listen, Dot made it known that she didn’t want anyone to mourn her transition, but to celebrate life without limits like she lived.   Dot prided herself in accessorizing each occasion as she did with her clothing.  With Dot, family was always welcomed and was not just limited to blood. To enter her home, was to enter a melodious space filled with the sounds of blues, like Mel Waiters’ Hole in the Wall. And, as the song cites, she had her “best time there.”  She would sing and sing as she played cards or cooked one of her many dishes, from fried fatback, freshly cooked and clean Chit’lins and rice, or her infamous Potato Salad and Deviled Eggs. 

On March 26, 2021, after a nearly 12-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease, Dot exited peacefully in her sleep, joining her father, mother, and younger brother, Thomas Anthony Beard.  She leaves behind her 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren, Rodriegus “Rodney” and Ashleigh; 3 brothers; Willie Allen (Minnie Lee) Beard, Robert Willie (Christine) Beard, James Richard Beard; and 3 sisters; Catherine Louise (Leonard) Kingsberry-Harrell, Lois Beard Garnett, and Luerether Boyd; and a host of friends and family.

The Hole in the Wall is now a hole in the heart of the many people who loved and cherished, Dorothy Beard Rose.
