Love Gate: An Excerpt From "Recommencing Our Thoughts"
On this path in the light, there is an understanding that we, “enter through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the way is spacious that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. But the gate is narrow and the way is difficult that leads to life, and there are few who find it [Matt 7:13-14].
I do believe that this states exactly the issue and the resolution to the challenge of THIS walk. “The way is difficult that leads to life, and there are few who find it”. We could easily examine those factors that are refutable such as, faith, relationship, word digest or ritualistic practices. What about those that are irrefutable, intangible, or immeasurable; better yet, those that are confided but truly define those limitless parameters. Often, we as believers devote an excessive about of time to rediscovering the gate, when the focus should be on the LIFE behind it; considering there are only a few who could actually find it. This journey begins before our day of salvation, past the public confessions and ceremonial activities, visited or witnessed. This is more than a routine of best practices. We tend to ascribe to the humanistic forms rather than extracting the deity within.
I believe a crucial step in this discovery lies deeply within love. In many instances, love is comparable to the salt of the earth. Some may not know that salt has strong properties with the ability to fertilize, sterilize, preserve, and season. I find it interesting that love can do the same things for our mind, body, soul, and spirit. However, unlike salt, love can never lose its savor. If underutilized, love can become buried, unnoticed, or unrecognizable. Going through life with inactive love will make the gate untraceable and can easily distract one from their course. A loveless life will introduce a different type of difficulty, one that is self-defeating, deteriorating, and detracting.
Unfortunately, because misery loves company, this has created a wide and spacious space for self-destruction. Often, we don’t recognize our downward spiral until we’ve reached rock bottom. That’s the beauty of love, it will not allow you to reach a damaging low. The low that you will experience in love, is one that prepares you for a birthing and not a death. Love refocuses your lenses and carves out a path that makes the “gate” visible, the path traceable, and the life desirable. Be encouraged to love! I will end with this, narrow is the gate of love and the way may seem difficult, but the life you will live will be so worth it!
